Superior nuchal line

The superior nuchal line is a bony ridge on the outer surface of the Os occipitale, located caudal to the Linea nuchae suprema.

Anatomy

The superior nuchal line provides the attachment of the Sternocleidomastoid muscle and the splenius capitis muscle, and its medial portions give rise to the most cranially located fibers of the trapezius muscle.
