The semi-sitting position, also referred to as the Beach Chair position, is a positioning method used for approaches to the posterior cranial fossa or cervical spine.
Positioning
In the semi-sitting position, the patient is placed in a semi-sitting position, with the head fixed in a Mayfield head holder. The semi-sitting position results in a significant reduction in mean arterial blood pressure and cardiac output in patients[^1] [^2].
Uses
The semi-sitting position can be used, for example, for resection of pineal cysts [^3] or vestibular schwannomas[^4].
