Polydioxanone

Synonyms
Poly-p-dioxanon, Poly-1,4-dioxan-2-on, PDS, PPDX, PPDO

Polydioxanone is essentially an alternating copolymer of ethylene glycol and glycolic acid. Polydioxanone elicits a minimal tissue reaction and is absorbed through simple hydrolysis[^1].

Neurosurgical use

  • Polydioxanone is used as an absorbable monofilament suture material[^1].

  • In procedures involving the Skull base, polydioxanone can be used as a plate to cover defects or the access route[^2]. In this context, polydioxanone retains its strength for at least 10 weeks and is resorbed within 6 months[^2].
