Platysma

Last edit by Alaric Steinmetz on

The platysma belongs to the superficial layer of the ventral neck musculature. As a thin sheet of muscle, it covers nearly the entire anterior surface of the neck and is functionally classified as a muscle of facial expression.

Innervation

The platysma is innervated by the cervical branch of the Facial nerve[^1].

Clinical relevance

In rare and severe cases of Hemifacial spasm, unilateral involvement of the platysma may occur.
