Anatomy
The mandibular canal terminates at the mental foramen. The mental nerve, artery, and vein emerge onto the surface through the mental foramen.
Location
The exact location of the mental foramen is highly variable. In 37,5 % of cases, the mental foramen is located at the level of a longitudinal axis between the first and second premolars1. In approximately 27,5 % of cases, the mental foramen lies on a longitudinal line aligned with the second premolar2.
