The maxillary sinus is a paranasal sinus that invaginates into the maxilla and, with a volume of 12-15ml, is the largest paranasal sinus1.
Anatomy
The roof of the maxillary sinus is also the floor of the orbit. Ventrally and laterally, the maxillary sinus is bounded by the facial surface of the maxilla; posteriorly, it bulges into the maxillary tuberosity. Medially, it borders the nasal cavity. The floor of the maxillary sinus extends into the dental arch of the maxilla, with the lowest point located between the molars and the 1st premolar2. The maxillary sinus communicates with the middle nasal meatus via the apertura nasomaxillaris, which is located in the roof of the maxillary sinus.
