A lumbosacral transitional vertebra (LSTV) is a congenital variation at the lumbosacral junction of the Spine, such as sacralization of the 5th lumbar vertebra or lumbarization of the 1st sacral vertebra.

Clinical relevance
Identification of such a transitional vertebra is of high clinical relevance, as failure to recognize it carries the risk of performing injections/block procedures or surgeries at the wrong level.
