Laminoplasty involves enlarging the spinal canal by cutting through the vertebral arches, which are opened like a hinge and subsequently refixed. This improves the available space within the spinal canal. Unlike a Laminectomy, the vertebral arch is thus preserved. Laminoplasty can be performed using various techniques[^1] [^2].
Open-door laminoplasty
In open-door or single-door laminoplasty, the lamina is opened on one side, while the contralateral side serves as the hinge.
French-door laminoplasty
In French-door or T-saw laminoplasty, the opening is made in the midline, and both sides serve as hinges.
Z-plasty laminoplasty
In Z-plasty laminotomy, the sides are alternated at each segment.
