The infraorbital nerve is the direct continuation of the maxillary nerve after the other branches have arisen[^1].

Anatomy

The infraorbital nerve runs from the pterygopalatine fossa beneath the eye socket through the maxillary foramen into the infraorbital canal of the maxilla and emerges at the inferior orbital margin through the infraorbital foramen.

Function

The infraorbital nerve is the sensory terminal branch of the maxillary nerve. It innervates the lower eyelid, the lateral part of the nose, the upper lip, as well as the lower anterior nasal mucosa.
