The incisura scapulae is a notch in the superior border of the scapula.
Anatomy
The incisura scapulae is located at the base of the coracoid process and is spanned by the superior transverse scapular ligament. The Nervus suprascapularis passes through the incisura scapulae. The incisura scapulae may be absent in 8-22 % of patients[^1].
Clinical relevance
The superior transverse scapular ligament may ossify and lead to compression of the suprascapular nerve, causing what is known as Suprascapular notch syndrome.
