A hamartoma is a malformation that arises during embryonic development and is characterized by non-neoplastic growth. Hamartomas typically consist of tissue from which the affected organ is formed, but exhibit a pathological arrangement and proportion of the various cell types1.
Hypothalamic hamartomas
Hamartomas can also occur intracranially in the region of the hypothalamus and are then referred to as hypothalamic hamartomas.
