Fasciculi proprii

Synonyms
Grundbündel

The fasciculi proprii belong to the intrinsic apparatus of the spinal cord.

Anatomy

The fasciculi proprii lie directly adjacent to the gray matter in the spinal cord. In general, the ascending and descending fibers extend over only one or two root levels, but may also include longer fibers.

Function

The fibers of the fasciculi proprii transmit excitatory and inhibitory impulses to motor anterior horn cells, which is thought to be important for the coordination of movement of the anterior and posterior limbs during walking1.
