Diffuse astrocytoma (WHO Grade II)

Diffuse astrocytoma is a diffusely infiltrating, glial brain tumor of astrocytic origin. According to the current WHO classification, diffuse astrocytomas are classified as WHO grade 2 tumors, with additional classifications now based on molecular markers, particularly IDH mutation status[^2].

Epidemiology

Diffuse astrocytoma is a Brain tumor that occurs particularly in children and young adults. Diffuse astrocytoma is relatively rare and accounts for only 5% of all brain tumors and approximately 15% of all gliomas[^1].

Clinical presentation

Diffuse astrocytomas grow slowly and most commonly first become symptomatic with epileptic seizures[^1].
