Brain spatula

The brain spatula is a basic neurosurgical surgical instrument. It can be used to retract parts of the brain to obtain better and deeper visualization of the target structures. When inserting the brain spatula, care must be taken to ensure that the retraction is not too strong in order to avoid brain contusions. It should also be noted that retraction may damage other structures, such as veins.
