Auricular ligaments

The auricular ligaments are responsible for attaching the auricle. The auricle is attached by a total of three ligaments: the ligamentum auriculare anterius, superius, and posterius1.

  • The ligamentum auriculare anterius begins at the spine of the concha and attaches to the root of the processus zygomaticus.
  • The ligamentum auriculare superius begins at the outer superior margin of the cartilage of the external auditory canal and attaches to the squama ossis temporalis.
  • The ligamentum auriculare posterius begins on the posterior aspect of the concha and attaches to the lateral surface of the processus mastoideus.
