Aneurysmal bone cysts are expansile, tumor-like osteolytic lesions consisting of vascularized, honeycomb-like, blood-filled cavities surrounded externally by a thin cortical bone shell[^1].
Epidemiology
Aneurysmal bone cysts account for approximately 1.4 % of all bone tumors[^2]. 80-90 % of aneurysmal bone cysts are diagnosed in patients under 20 years of age[^3].
Location
Aneurysmal bone cysts can occur in all parts of the skeleton. 20 % of cases involve the Spine[^3], particularly the posterior elements[^1].
Etiology
The etiology of aneurysmal bone cysts is not fully understood and remains controversial. Aneurysmal bone cysts are thought to arise from preexisting lesions such as osteoblastomas, fibrous dysplasia, giant cell tumors, chondrosarcomas, or acute fractures.

Prognosis
Incomplete excision is associated with a high recurrence rate of 25-50 %[^1].
