The Anand classification was published in 2002 and is used to classify thoracic disc herniations[^1].

Classification

Grade

Description

Grade 1

Primarily thoracic central (axial) pain

Grade 2

Primarily thoracic radicular pain

Grade 3A

Significant thoracic axial and radicular pain

Grade 3B

Significant axial pain with lower-extremity pain, with or without thoracic radicular pain.

Grade 4

Myelopathy but no significant motor weakness

Grade 5

Significant motor weakness
