VAS pain scale

Synonyms
Visuelle Analogskala, VAS, VAS-Skala

The VAS pain scale is a method for the subjective assessment of pain.

Assessment

To assess the VAS pain scale, the patient rates their pain intensity on a scale from 0 (= no pain) to 10 (= the worst pain imaginable). The scale is usually presented as a bar or line, on which the patient marks the pain intensity as the distance from the left edge. When documented repeatedly, this method provides an approximate overview of the course over time and the success of treatment.
