Trigeminal lemniscus

Last edit by Alaric Steinmetz on

The trigeminal lemniscus is a fiber tract that conveys tactile perception and deep sensitivity information of the face via the trigeminal nerve and its cranial nerve nucleus (Nucleus principalis nervi trigemini) to the ventral posteromedial nucleus (VPM) of the thalamus [^1].

Anatomy

The trigeminal lemniscus associates with the medial lemniscus, which conveys information of the same qualities from all other body regions from the spinal cord to the thalamus. The trigeminal lemniscus crosses over to the opposite side before reaching the thalamus, so that the information from one half of the face always reaches only the thalamus of the opposite body half.
