Transmural pressure

Last edit by Alaric Steinmetz on

The transmural pressure is the pressure that acts on the wall of a hollow organ (for example, a blood vessel). It represents the difference between the internal pressure and the external pressure.

Clinical Relevance

In neurosurgery, transmural pressure plays a particularly relevant role in vascular pathologies. In aneurysms, for example, it is assumed that increased transmural pressure influences the rupture rate[^1] [^2].
