Teratomas belong to Germ cell tumorsand represent a subtype thereof. They are tumors arising from pluripotent cells, which may originate from the endoderm, mesoderm, or ectoderm[^2].

Epidemiology

Primary intracranial teratomas are extremely rare tumors and account for approximately 18-20% of all intracranial germ cell tumors [^3].

2021 WHO Classification

According to the 2021 WHO Classification, the following types of teratoma are distinguished:

  • Mature Teratoma

  • Immature Teratoma

  • Teratoma with somatic-type malignancy
