Synaptophysin

Last edit by Alaric Steinmetz on

Synaptophysin is a protein found in synaptic vesicles.

Pathology

In neuropathology, a stain against synaptophysin is used to detect synaptic vesicles. Compared with chromogranin, synaptophysin staining has higher sensitivity but lower specificity[^1]. In central neurocytoma, synaptophysin staining is often positive while chromogranin staining is negative[^2].
