Sutura metopica

Last edit by on

Synonyms: Sutura frontalis persistens, Stirnnaht

The Sutura metopica is a midline cranial suture between the two halves of the Frontal bone. Physiologically, it fuses during early childhood, typically between the 1st and 8th years of life. If the suture persists beyond this period into adulthood, it is referred to as a persistent Sutura metopica or metopism.

Neurosurgical relevance

For neurosurgery and craniofacial surgery, the Sutura metopica is particularly relevant because of its differential diagnosis from a fracture and its significance in Craniosynostotic malformations[^1].
