Lambdoid suture

Synonyms: Lambdanaht

The lambdoid suture is a fibrous, connective tissue junction between the occipital bone and the two parietal bones of the skull.

Nomenclature

The nomenclature derives from the shape of the letter lambda, which resembles the lambdoid suture when viewed dorsally.

Clinical Relevance

Like any suture, the lambdoid suture is an anatomical weak point of the skull, and it may open under traumatic force. Intraoperatively, it is possible to better visualize sutures using hydrogen peroxide.
