Status epilepticus refers to an unusually prolonged epileptic seizure (lasting longer than 5 minutes [^1]) or a series of epileptic seizures in which the interval between individual seizures is so short that the patient’s baseline neurological status is no longer regained. Status epilepticus can occur with any type of epileptic seizure. Depending on the type of seizure and the duration of status epilepticus, it can cause severe injury and may also become life-threatening.
