Synonyms: Gelaspon

Spongostan is an absorbable gelatin sponge-like material used in neurosurgery for local hemostasis. Spongostan is suitable for achieving hemostasis in venous and diffuse oozing bleeding.

Composition

Spongostan consists of absorbable porcine gelatin and sodium lauryl sulfate and is undyed.

Absorption time

The absorption time of Spongostan is 4–6 weeks[^1].

Storage conditions

Spongostan should be stored at a controlled room temperature of 15º–30ºC and has a shelf life of approximately 4 years[^1].
