Reticular Formation

Last edit by Alaric Steinmetz on

The reticular formation is a phylogenetically very old structure and constitutes the central part of the brainstem and makes up the mass of the tegmentum[^1].

Function

In the reticular formation, essential components of those neuronal networks are located which are responsible for vital functions[^1]:

  • Circulation

  • Respiration

  • Sleep-Wake Cycle

  • State of Consciousness

  • Basic Motor Skills (Muscle Tone)
