Prothrombin complex concentrate (e.g., Beriplex) contains coagulation factors II, VII, IX, and X, as well as proteins C and S. In patients receiving Marcoumar who have active intracranial hemorrhage, prothrombin complex concentrate is considered the treatment of choice for correcting coagulation. Correction of the INR can be achieved 4–5 times faster with this treatment than, for example, with Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP). The half-life of coagulation factor VII is only 6 hours. Therefore, in an acute situation, coagulation should always be supplemented from the outset with Konakion (Vitamin K).
