In percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) using balloon dilation, a small balloon is advanced through a catheter positioned in the vessel into the vascular stenosis, which is then dilated by inflating the balloon.

Neurosurgical relevance

In neurosurgery, PTA represents a treatment option for Vasospasms in selected patients[^1].
