The os coccygis forms the lowermost part of the Spine. It consists of 3-5 rudimentary vertebrae, the coccygeal vertebrae (vertebrae coccygeae), of which the first three typically bear recognizable remnants of articular and transverse processes[^1].
Clinical relevance
Its relevance in neurosurgery is very limited, as no nerve roots emerge at this level that could potentially be compressed. Fractures in this region are treated conservatively in most cases. In selected cases, a Coccydynia may be treated with a Coccygectomy.
