Mass Transfusion

Last edit by Alaric Steinmetz on

The term mass transfusion is defined as replacing at least one blood volume or more with blood products in an adult within less than 24 hours. In the pediatric population, a mass transfusion is defined as replacing at least twice the circulating blood volume within less than 24 hours. In a pediatric patient, approximately 1.5× the circulating blood volume can be replaced before coagulation problems occur1.
