The interspinous ligament is a short and strong ligament that runs between the Spinous processes of two adjacent Vertebral bodies.
Anatomy
The origins and insertions of the interspinous ligaments extend from the base to the tip along the entire length of the spinous process. At the tips of the spinous processes, the interspinous ligaments are continuous with the Ligamentum supraspinaleLigamentum flavum.
Function
The interspinous ligaments support the mechanical stability of the spine, prevent dorsal displacement of two vertebrae, and limit anterior flexion of the spine.
