Heel walking describes a gait pattern where the heels serve as the landing surfaces.

Clinical Relevance

Heel walking can be used as a means of testing gait under challenging conditions. Paralyses that are compensated during normal walking can be revealed. For instance, heel walking is not possible in cases of severe paralysis of the L5 spinal nerve.
