Dysesthesia

Dysesthesia

Dysesthesia is an unpleasant, abnormal sensation that may occur spontaneously or be triggered by an external stimulus[^1]. Affected individuals may describe it, for example, as burning, an electric shock-like sensation, pins and needles, painful cold, or an unpleasant tingling sensation. Dysesthesia is a symptom, not a distinct diagnosis. It often indicates a lesion or dysfunction of the somatosensory nervous system and may be a component of a neuropathic pain syndrome.
