Corpus Callosotomy

Last edit by Alaric Steinmetz on

Corpus callosotomy involves surgically interrupting the corpus callosum, either partially or completely. The procedure is performed in epilepsy surgery, particularly for severe motor epileptic seizures that do not improve with medication.

Indication

Determining the indication for corpus callosotomy is complex, and the procedure should only be performed at epilepsy surgery centers[^1]. In particular, frequent episodes of atonic seizures ("drop attacks") often respond well to this procedure.
