The coronal suture is a fibrous suture junction between the frontal bone and the two parietal bones of the skull.

Anatomy

At the location where the coronal suture intersects the superior temporal line, is the stephanion.

Clinical Significance

The coronal suture serves as an important anatomical intraoperative landmark. Like any suture, the coronal suture is considered an anatomical weak point and may open under traumatic impact. Intraoperatively, it is possible to better visualize sutures using hydrogen peroxide.
