Burst Suppression

Last edit by Alaric Steinmetz on

The term burst suppression is used for an EEG pattern associated with a deep comatose state1. The burst suppression pattern consists of alternating episodes of isoelectric (flat) and bursting slow waves on the EEG. The bursting slow waves are the result of cortical hyperexcitability caused by reduced inhibition2.
