Burst fracture

A burst fracture is a fracture in which the bone "bursts," resulting in centripetal displacement of the bone fragments.

Neurosurgical relevance

In neurosurgery, burst fractures of the Spine are particularly relevant, as the displaced bone fragments can cause nerve or spinal cord compression and thus lead to neurological deficits.
