Bulbocavernosus Reflex

The bulbocavernosus reflex is a polysynaptic reflex involving the S2–S4 nerve roots.

Pathophysiology

The bulbocavernosus reflex involves a reflex contraction of the anal sphincter when the glans penis is compressed. Loss of the reflex may occur, for example, with compression of the Cauda equina or in spinal shock[^1].
