Brudzinski Sign

Synonyms: Brudzinskis Sign

The Brudzinski sign is assessed during the neurological examination when meningitis is suspected.

Procedure

To assess the Brudzinski sign, the patient is placed flat on their back, and the head is flexed forward at the neck. If this results in flexion of the knees, the Brudzinski sign is interpreted as positive. The usefulness of the Brudzinski sign is controversially discussed in the literature due to its low sensitivity1.
