Le Fort Classification

The Le Fort classification is based on the original work by René Le Fort, which was published as early as 1901[^1], and serves to classify midface fractures into three different types.

Horizontal maxillary fracture

Basal separation of the maxilla

Le Fort Type II

Pyramidal maxillary fracture

Separation of the maxilla together with the bony nose

Le Fort Type III

Transverse maxillary fracture

High separation of the entire midface from the skull base, including the bony nose.
