Synonyms: Osteoma

ICD-10: D16

Osteomas are the most common benign bone tumors of the skull cap[^1]. Osteomas are benign, slow-growing masses that can occur on the skull cap, sinus, as well as on the mandible. Typically, osteomas originate from the external table, and unlike meningiomas, the diploë remains intact and the vascularization is not increased[^1].

Epidemiology

Osteomas are more common in women than in men and occur most frequently in the 6th decade of life[^1].

Therapy

Asymptomatic osteomas can be monitored over time. Surgical removal can be considered for cosmetic reasons or if there are symptoms due to soft tissue compression.

Imaging

Osteomas can be visualized in both MRI and CT imaging.

Prognosis

In cases of incomplete surgical removal, the recurrence rate is reported in the literature to be up to 10%[^2].
