Synonyms: nasopalatine nerve

The nasopalatine nerve is a purely sensory nerve branch of the maxillary nerve, which in turn arises from the Nervus trigeminus[^1].

Anatomy

The nasopalatine nerve passes through the Foramen sphenopalatinum and runs along the nasal septum through the nasal cavity to its floor, reaching the hard palate through the Canalis incisivus.

Function

In addition to the septum, the nasopalatine nerve supplies the anterior third of the palatal mucosa as well as the incisors.
