Ilioinguinal nerve

The ilioinguinal nerve is a peripheral nerve that arises from the L1 segment of the lumbar plexus[^1].

Anatomy

The ilioinguinal nerve runs along the inguinal ligament and in the inguinal canal with the spermatic cord up to the scrotum, or with the round ligament of the uterus in females up to the labia majora[^1].

Function

The ilioinguinal nerve participates in the innervation of the broad abdominal muscles and provides sensory supply to the skin of the mons pubis and the upper part of the scrotum or labia majora[^1].
