The American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) classification is used to classify spinal cord injuries.
Classification
ASIA Grade | Description |
ASIA A | No sensory or motor function is preserved in the sacral segments S4-S5. |
ASIA B | Incomplete: Sensory, but no motor function preserved below the neurological level; extends to the sacral segments S4-S5. |
ASIA C | Incomplete: Motor function is preserved below the neurological level and the majority of key muscles below the neurological level have a muscle strength grade of less than 3. |
ASIA D | Incomplete: Motor function is preserved below the level of injury and the majority of key muscles below the neurological level have a muscle strength grade greater than or equal to 3. |
ASIA E | Normal: Sensory and motor function is normal. |
