The lingual artery is a branch of the external carotid artery.

Anatomy

The lingual artery arises near the greater horn of the hyoid bone and passes covered by the hypoglossal muscle to the tongue, where it releases the sublingual artery to the front and downward and extends with its terminal branch, the deep artery of the tongue, to the tip of the tongue[^1].
