Gadolinium

Gadolinium is a chemical element with the symbol Gd and atomic number 64. In the periodic table, it is in the lanthanide group and is therefore also one of the rare earth metals.

Clinical relevance

Gadolinium is a component of most commonly used contrast agents that are used for MRI imaging, such as gadobutrol (Gadovist). A study that investigated the safety and tolerability of Gadovist showed very good tolerability[^1] in clinical use.
